Twellium, in partnership with Zipline, has launched a one-year partnership to undertake a Nationwide Blood Drive to save over 10,000 lives.

The launch coupled with a blood donation exercise, took place at the Accra Technical Training Centre in the Greater Accra Region.

The initiative, themed “To Share Love, Donate Blood” will be implemented in collaboration with the National Blood Service; mobilising volunteer blood donors to help boost Ghana’s blood bank reserves for improved healthcare delivery.

The National Blood Service revealed that, currently about six (6) out of every 1000 Ghanaian give blood instead of the expected 10 per 1000; hence patients do not have blood readily available and may therefore wait for prolonged periods to receive blood transfusions.

The General Manager of Twellium Mr Mohammad Kawtharani, represented by Miss Emelia Gyasi stated that:

“This is more than just a campaign; it is a call to action. Across Ghana, hospitals continue to face critical shortages of blood. Behind every statistic is a mother in need during childbirth, a child fighting illness, or a victim of an accident.

Through this year-long drive, we are setting out to restock our blood banks and, in doing so, save over 10,000 lives. This one-year partnership will keep 10,000 families together, 10,000 reasons to act and restore hope, and 10,000 opportunities to prove that together, we can make a difference.”

Miss Gyasi further stated that over 150 volunteers in the past weeks have participated in the drives held in Kumasi and Tamale.

Daniel Merki, Country Director for Zipline Ghana stated that

“The National Blood Service exists to ensure that safe, adequate, and accessible blood is available to all who need it. At Zipline, our mission is to build the world’s first logistics system that serves all people equally. Together, these missions align on one simple but urgent truth: no Ghanaian should die because lifesaving blood is out of reach.

This Twellium partnership presents the opportunity to significantly expand on our support for the blood collection initiatives of the National Blood Service. Our joint aim is to substantially increase the overall national blood supply – a crucial step towards strengthening the Ghanaian healthcare system – and most importantly, save countless Ghanaian lives.”

The National Blood Service; Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Shirley Owusu -Ofori commended Twellium, a food and beverage manufacturing company and Zipline, a drone delivery and health logistics organisation, for the blood mobilisation initiative.

‘Donors across the length and breadth of Ghana will be nutritiously refreshed and this will ripple into improved blood collection outcomes. Hence increasing availability and access to blood and blood products for transfusion therapy’’, she clarified.

“The drive would also contribute to the national efforts aimed at establishing a national blood supply system that is safe and based on 100% voluntary unpaid blood donation”, she remarked.
