National Blood Service Ghana honours Twellium on World Blood Donor Day
The National Blood Service Ghana has honoured Twellium with an award in recognition of its commitment to supporting voluntary blood donation and improving the country’s healthcare system.
The award was given during the celebration of the 2026 World Blood Donor Day in recognition of the continued efforts of Twellium to mobilise blood donors, create awareness on the importance of voluntary blood donation and contribute meaningfully to national blood security.
Over the years, Twellium has incorporated blood donation into its community development initiatives by encouraging employees and communities to partake in regular donation exercises.
Twellium’s commitment was furthered in 2025 when the company teamed up with Zipline and the National Blood Service to launch a nationwide blood mobilisation campaign with the theme, “To Share Love, Donate Blood” acknowledging the urgent need to strengthen Ghana’s blood reserves.
The year-long drive was aimed at easing blood shortages and promoting drives for voluntary blood donations across the country.
A Partnership of National Significance
The Twellium-Zipline collaboration sought to help save more than 10,000 lives through increased blood donations and timely access to blood products for patients in need. The campaign, which featured blood donation exercises in various parts of the country including Tamale and Kumasi, brought together hundreds of volunteers and encouraged greater public participation in voluntary blood donation.
The partnership also harnessed Zipline’s innovative drone delivery network, which has revolutionised access to blood and medical supplies in Ghana.
In 2025 alone, Zipline performed more than 4,300 blood deliveries, delivering more than 5,000 units of blood to 96 health facilities across the country, helping to mitigate shortages and improve emergency response for maternal health cases, accident victims, children, and critically ill patients.
This has resulted in national efforts to create a sustainable blood supply system based on voluntary unpaid donations, by combining Twellium’s community mobilisation efforts, Zipline’s logistics expertise, and leadership from the National Blood Service.
The recognition on World Blood Donor Day is a corporate achievement and a testimony to Twellium’s commitment to Agenda 2063 and the SDGs.
