Twellium, on a working visit to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) has held discussions to forge a strategic partnership to strengthen industry-academia relations.
The partnership will focus on research, student training, staff development and graduate employment.
The meeting was attended by a delegation from Twellium, as well as academic leaders, including the heads of the Food Science and Technology, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Electronic Engineering departments.
Discussions focused on the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that would provide the basis for the partnership. Proposed areas include: student internships and industrial attachments; collaborative research; sponsorships and scholarships; graduate recruitment and staff capacity building.
The partnership will give KNUST students greater exposure to industrial practice and opportunities for researchers to work with industry to solve practical problems. Twellium would also benefit from the university’s expertise, research capacity and pool of skilled graduates.
The delegation also called on the Provost of the College of Engineering, who welcomed the initiative and pledged support for the proposed partnership.
He urged the two sides to accelerate the formalisation of the collaboration and translate the talks into tangible initiatives with substantive and lasting effects.
